Still on the search for the "Best Breakfast in London", and killing time until Wolseley V. 2, Delaunay, shows up in the neighbourhood, The Boyfriend, The Sibling and I checked out Christopher's - an American style grill, that has a mouthwatering brunch menu. Its a fairly upmarket place, occupying two floors of a large building in Covent Garden, with a large dining room. Sadly, no newspapers were offered, and this is not the kind of place that its acceptable to look obviously hungover. Service was unmemorable, everything showed up on time, in the correct place, but nothing special.
The food was mixed. I very much enjoyed my Eggs Florentine with Monterey Jack and a hashbrown. The spinach balanced the cheese, and was complemented by the tangy hollandaise. I think other brunch places should take note of this - everything is better with cheese. The hashbrown, had an almost anniseedish note and in itself contained so many flavours it could have been a dish. The Boyfriend's Huevos California, was a suprisingly good take at tex-mex. A liberal melting of Monterey Jack marred with a almost sweet tomato sauce, and a well fried egg left The Boyfriend with a smile on his face. However, it was lacking chili which would have added to the experience. The Sibling's eggs and Salmon, was on the small side, given the cost and given it didn't come with any bread.
We added a side of dates, figs and yoghurts, which was lacking the promised maple syrup. Nice presentation but nothing particularly special.
The cost was to £17 a head, for the four dishes, and three teas.
