I'm on a hunt for my perfect brunch spot. So far I haven't found it. My brunch spots needs to have:
a) Satisfying food, innovative but not too pretentious (Sorry, Helene Darroze)
b) A cute set-up, but not so "scene" I have to make as much effort as I would turning up to Zuma (Goodbye The Wolseley)
c) No queue (It's just not meant to be, The Breakfast Club)
d) Proximity to Covent Garden (It is not you, it is me, 202)
e) Brunch served past midday (Why, Nopi? Why?)
f) Free papers (What were you thinking, Roast)
It's not much to ask, is it? Kopapa, was pretty much at the top of my list until Dean Street Townhouse arrived. It has managed all of the above, plus outdoor seating, that is enjoyable in October, thanks to heaters that could possibly be the single cause of global warming. We arrived at 11-ish, and were the only people eating outside, it is amazing that just round the corner there was most likely a full on queue at The Breakfast Club, where here for not much more than the Breakfast Club, a much more relaxing experience could be had. By the time we left, and the time the sun had hit the tables, the seating situation was getting competitive.
Ham hock hash with a fried duck egg was an interesting concept well executed, if a bit under-salted. A full English again was great. Beautiful flavourful sausages, and black pudding. A side of brown toast completed the picture.
The bill hit £30, for the food plus two pots of tea and a rather watery orange juice.
