Kopapa - Brunch

The Boyfriend and I have been trying to go to Kopapa for brunch for ages. Sleep deprivation and hangovers have prevented us on at least three occasions. So it was a happy day when we finally managed to make it.

I expected the place to be larger. Grander almost. The decor is certainly not warm and cozy but it's nicely done. The tables are a little too spaced together, which meant that any trip to the toilet involved a close up of my rear end for the people at the table next to us - lucky them! The problem with Kopapa is that everything on the menu is appetizing - the Chorizo hash or the Spiced Banana French Toast - which meant decisions a little too difficult for first thing in the morning.

The Boyfriend I started Brunch with two drinks - a Bucks Fizz for him and a Passion Fruit Belini for me. The service was friendly but stayed short of annoyingly perky, which is a good plus fairly early-ish in the day.

There were two reasons we were so desperate to try Kopapa. Firstly, both The Boyfriend and I had been noticing a lack of brunch places in Covent Garden. Secondly, they serve "Turkish eggs".

The Boyfriend is Turkish, and a big fan of Changa, the restaurant in Istanbul from which this idea comes from, so ordering these were a given. The Turkish eggs involved whipped yoghurt, two poached eggs and hot butter - a concept The Boyfriend had never heard of. Regardless, of how traditionally Turkish it was. It was great.  It kind of tasted like a very healthy alternative to Eggs Benedict. The tangy yoghurt with the eggs was deliciously satisfying.

Equally satisfying was the Hot Smoked Salmon on toasted sourdough, with spinach, two poached egg and yuzu hollandaise. I found the smoked salmon to be a little too fishy and raw for breakfast but aside from that it was a perfect dish to start the day.

The bill came to £50.00, which seems steep for breakfast but that involved the belinis, a hot chocolate, two sets of eggs and two sides. It would be easy to have an wonderful breakfast here for under £10.00
