Opera Tavern - Waiting for doom

How do you deal with the impending end of the world? Simple. You drink wine and eat cheese. Obviously we were on a limited time scale, with only one and a half hours till "Rapture", which put La Cave Du Fromage in South Ken out of the question and La Fromagerie too. So Opera Tavern it was.

At 4:30 the place wasn't particularly busy and we took a seat at the bar. We started with some Finocchiona, St Angelo Scalo, Tuscany, a flavourful salami with a hint of fennel seed, which was delicious .

Next came some Murcia goat"s cheese, accompanied by raisins which added a hint of sweetness.
And last some soft and creamy Gorgonzola accompanied by candied pecans.

We drank a white wine, the name of which escapes me, recommended by our waiter and a desert wine, a Moscato Rosa. In fact more than anything what I liked about the experience was this waiter. Who was knowledgable, charming and chatty.I think its fair to say, he was possibly the nicest waiter we have ever encountered. Both The Boyfriend and I left a lot more informed about wines, and he even gave us a bit of a tasting of some of the wines and knocked the desert wine off the bill, which eventually came to £40.00 for the three glasses and three dishes.

I think its fair to say, that if we had been struck by "rapture", during our hour and a half at Opera Tavern both The Boyfriend and I would have died very happy. We liked it so much that we booked it for the next week, hoping we would still be around by then, to test out the tapas section of the menu.
